The ROSANI Suite - Three Days at Peace Haven
For three days in December, Peace Haven was loud. Counters in the garden, music across the courtyard, the front rooms of the old Portuguese villa in Bandra full of people who had come to shop and stayed to eat. ROSANI was in none of them. The room ROSANI had taken its space at the back of the house, past all of it, and it had to be found.
Rohitash Notani had covered it fully in brown fabric. The walls, the rails, the changing cabin. Nothing was left as he received it. SANCTUARY had launched a month earlier and its palette runs charcoal, black, silver, deep wine, soft lilac, white, brown and vivid green, so the room was built in the colour the collection rests on. A mirror ball hung in the doorway. A deep house playlist ran through the afternoons, Berlin inside a Bombay villa, and every so often it gave way to Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga.
The room did what a quiet room does. People arrived having walked past everything else, and they slowed down. Some went along the rail alone. Others were taken through it by Rohitash, who spent all three days on the floor, talking, fitting and taking custom orders for occasions people already had in the calendar. Birthdays. Weddings. New Year's Eve.
The pattern that kept repeating was not one anyone had planned for. Women arrived with their husbands. Daughters arrived with their fathers and their brothers. They came to see the collection and stayed to work out how the men beside them might dress differently for the next thing they had to attend. Customers who had bought before came for the new pieces. Vendors from the other rooms came through between shifts.
Peace Haven is where ROSANI held its first Bombay pop-up in December 2023, at The Living Room Story, presented with Anaita Shroff Adajania and The Flame Store. ROSANI stood under The Flame Store both times. Two years later it came back with a womenswear collection, a menswear collection and in the room of its own.
The collection story calls SANCTUARY a place for self-possession, a place for tenderness, a place where we belong to ourselves. For three days in Bandra it was also a room at the back of a loud house, and you had to walk the length of the villa to find it.
